Golders green library

Happy to attend Golders Green library last Thursday to celebrate renewal work including (at last) public toilet and ‘self issue’ equipment allowing you to self issue books in 4 languages.  Ceremony was followed by Programme of Storytime which my grandtwins enjoyed and an evening talk on researching family history for which we now have some web facilities.  If anyone out there would like to join the Friends of Barnet Libraries please let me know.

I’ve just noticed that Barnet Council are asking for comments on their new Budget. I don’t know how long the link has been there, but I’m the only person in Barnet who has so far bothered to leave a comment. The closing date is 1st March.

If you can’t be bothered to, then don’t leave comments here moaning when they cut services !

What’s that supposed to mean? If it means me I assure you that as a COuncil group we comment all the time including at Council Meetings and CCouncil committee meetings and to officers and Cabinet members on specific issues.
If you mean the electorate in general you are , of course, right that if more people took an interest in the democratic process it would be good but perhaps they have become cynical about budget consultations -since the consultation process ends today and the Administration’s budget is finalised at COuncil on Tuesday do you really feel any meaningful changes will occur?

I was referring to the public in general although I felt that as people look at your blog who are interested in Barnet issues this is a good place to advertise this process.

I think that very little useful will come from this process, but I do not want the Tory administration saying “no one complained” which they surely will. I think it is a failure by the opposition parties to widely encourage their supporters to comment on this given that the process is in place. If Freer had had a thousand comments he might have listened a little more.
